Citation Generators in Library Databases

Using the Cite Tool in Library Databases

Did you know that many library databases have the ability to automatically generate citations for sources found within the database? Simply click the cite button to generate citations in MLA, APA, Chicago Style, or any number of other style guidelines. From the results list, the Cite button will appear when you click the three dots next to the title of the article (See image 1). From the item record, the Cite button will appear near the top of the screen (See image 2).

Cautions About Using Citation Generators

Cautions About Using Citation Generators

Keep in mind that citation generators are prone to formatting errors, whether they are located in a library database or an outside program like Zotero. One of the most common errors that you will see when generating APA citations is the incorrect capitalization of article titles. Take a few moments to review any generated citation to ensure its accuracy regarding structure and formatting. If there are any errors, take the time to fix them once it is added to your references.
