Managing Sources with Zotero

Adding Sources to Zotero.org Using Identifiers

  1. Zotero.org allows you to add sources using unique identifiers such as International Standard Book Numbers (ISBNs), Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs), PubMed identification numbers (PMIDs), and, in some cases, Uniform Resource Locators (URLs). To add a source using a unique identifier, click the wand icon at the top of the screen.
  2. A new box will appear. Copy and paste the identifier into the text field and then click Enter. A Zotero entry should automatically be generated, but double check the information for accuracy and formatting.

Manually Add a Source to Zotero.org

  1. To manually add a source into Zotero.org, click the plus sign (+) next to the wand icon. A dropdown menu will appear with a selection of a few different formats you can choose from. If these formats do not match the source, click "More."
  2. A series of text fields will open up to the right of the screen. Click a field to type in text. Fill out as much publication information as is available from the source (At a minimum, fill out the information that is required by the citation style you will be using).
