National Library Week 2024: Photo Caption Contest

This guide is designed to be used in connection with National Library Week activities at Smiley Memorial Library.

Archival Photograph Caption Contest

Two students, one male and one female, looking through the card catalog. Added to the photograph are speech bubbles, with the man saying "What did the librarian say to the person checking out 500 books?... Don't overdue it." The females response is "Oh! Save it for the Library's photo caption contest, John!" Photo Caption Contest

Do you ever wonder what is going on in old photographs? Do you have a few library jokes up your sleeve? Try your hand at Smiley Memorial Library's Photo Caption Contest celebrating National Library Week!

How does it work?

  1. Download one of the image options below. Two options are provided: 1) images with speech or thought bubbles added or 2) photographs with extra white space below to add traditional photo captions. The choice is yours!
  2. Use Notability, Canva, or some other editing app to add a funny text caption to the photo.
  3. Submit your captioned photograph to our contest entry form!
  4. Entries will be placed in a gallery on the homepage of this guide. Keep an eye on the gallery, as well as the library's social media accounts to see if your entry is posted! Follow the Smiley Memorial Library on Instagram, Facebook, or Snapchat.

  5. Voting will open on Thursday, April 11. Choose your favorite entry before Sunday and the winner will be announced on Monday, April 15 on this webpage!

Would you prefer a print copy of one of these photographs over submitting a digital version? We have print copies at the front desk of the library that you can write on instead of digitally edit.

Rules

  • Keep it appropriate! We will screen all entries before they are displayed on or posted on the website.
  • Try to make the caption library-related.
