Prebunking is the belief that the best way to stop the spread of fake news is to expose people to examples of mis- and disinformation and the common methods that are used to spread it. This exposure can make it easier to detect these forms of manipulation and avoid them in the future.
Prebunking is based on inoculation theory. Similar to how a vaccine works, inoculation theory argues that weakened exposure to misinformation in controlled environments, such as a classroom, can help information users recognize and combat future misinformation spread.
