Digital Resources Offered by Smiley Memorial Library

Overview of Digital Resources

  • Databases: Library databases index digital resources that the library has subscribed to. Full-text digital access will be offered for many, but not all, of the resources found in a library database. Those not available in full text can be requested through interlibrary loan. Library databases can be used to find a variety of resources, but they are most commonly used to locate journal articles.
  • Library Catalogs: There are two catalogs available to the CMU community: the Smiley Memorial Library Catalog and the MOBIUS catalog. A library catalog allows you to search for resources owned by a particular library, such as print books, eBooks, DVDs, bound periodicals, etc. Library catalogs will include publication information, along with a link or a call number that can be used to locate the item. Library catalogs are the best places to search when trying to find a book to check out.
  • Libby: Smiley Memorial Library is proud to offer access to the digital library app, Libby, and its extensive collection of audiobook and eBook titles.
  • Digital Access to The New York Times: The New York Times is one of the premier newspapers in the country, covering U.S. and world news in a variety of interest areas. The New York Times also offers notable Arts, Lifestyle, Business, and Opinion columns.
  • Digital Access to The Athletic: The Athletic is a sports journalism website offering coverage of professional and college sports in the U.S., as well as the 20 Premier League football clubs.
  • Research GuidesResearch guides are collections of resources and tutorials created by the library to support students in academic research and use of the library's collections. Research guides can be focused on an academic subject, course, or topic.
  • Digital Archival Collections & Exhibits: Central Methodist University Archives and Special Collections offers a variety of digital exhibits and collections that you can use to learn more about CMU's history.
  • Library Chat: Do you need help from a Librarian but the Library is closed? Try out the Library Chat embedded on the Library's webpage and in Central Search.
